Official SSC CGL upload sizes

From Notice: Combined Graduate Level Examination, 2026, published 21 May 2026. Paras 9.3 to 9.6, and Annexure on how to apply. Issued by Staff Selection Commission (SSC). Last checked on 11 October 2026.

Photo: SSC does not take a photo file. The application captures a live photo through your webcam or phone camera. Taking a picture of an already printed photo gets the form rejected.

FileFormatFile sizeDimensions
SignatureJPEG/JPG10 KB to 20 KBAbout 6.0 cm wide × 2.0 cm tall (para 9.6). The how-to-apply annexure of the same notice says about 4.0 × 2.0 cm.No DPI is given. The preset uses 6 × 2 cm at 200 DPI.

How to use it

  1. Sign on plain white paper with a black or dark blue pen. Take a photo of it in daylight, from straight above.

  2. The list below is already set to “SSC signature”: 10–20 KB on a 6 × 2 cm frame.

  3. Choose the signature photo and press Resize.

  4. Check that the line under the preview says the file is inside 10–20 KB and that the whole signature is visible. Download it.

  5. On the SSC form, capture your live photo with the camera when asked, and upload this signature file.

SSC does not take a photo file any more

On the SSC website (ssc.gov.in), the application form captures your photograph live, through a webcam or your phone camera. You do not upload a photo file at all, so there is no photo KB limit to hit. The SSC CGL 2026 notice says the photo must be clear, without a cap or spectacles, with a full frontal view, and that taking a picture of an already printed photo gets the application rejected.

That is why this page has no photo preset. Many sites still offer an “SSC photo 20–50 KB” resizer from the old process. If you are applying for an SSC exam on the new website, you will not need it. Sit in good light, in front of a plain wall, and look straight at the camera when the form asks.

The signature rule

Para 9.6 of the SSC CGL 2026 notice asks for a scanned signature in JPEG or JPG format, between 10 KB and 20 KB, with the image about 6.0 cm wide and 2.0 cm tall. The how-to-apply annexure of the same notice describes the signature as about 4.0 cm by 2.0 cm. Both say 10 to 20 KB, and the file size is what the upload checks. The tool uses the main rule, 6 × 2 cm. If you prefer the annexure size, type 4 in the width box.

The notice gives no DPI. The tool uses 200 DPI, which gives a frame of 472 by 157 pixels. A neat signature on white paper often comes out under 10 KB at that size, because white paper compresses to almost nothing. When that happens the tool makes the frame larger in the same shape until the file reaches 10 KB, and it tells you it did that.

Signatures that get rejected

SSC says applications with blurred or miniature signatures are rejected. A miniature signature is a tiny signature in the middle of a large white page. Crop close to the ink before you resize, so the signature fills most of the frame. Do not sign in capital letters if that is not how you normally sign, and use the same signature on the exam day.

SSC also says that if you complete Aadhaar-based authentication during registration, your application will not be rejected because the photo or signature does not meet these standards. It is still worth getting the file right. A clear signature avoids questions at the exam centre.

FAQ

What is the SSC signature size?
JPEG or JPG, between 10 KB and 20 KB, about 6.0 cm × 2.0 cm, according to the SSC CGL 2026 notice.
What is the SSC photo size?
There is no photo file. The SSC application captures a live photo through your webcam or phone camera.
Is it 6 × 2 cm or 4 × 2 cm?
The notice says about 6.0 × 2.0 cm in para 9.6 and about 4.0 × 2.0 cm in the annexure. Both give 10–20 KB. The tool uses 6 × 2 cm and you can change it.
Why did my signature come out bigger than 6 × 2 cm in pixels?
Because it was under 10 KB at the normal size. The tool enlarged the frame, keeping the same shape, so it could reach the minimum.
Does this work for CHSL, MTS and GD too?
These exams use the same SSC website and usually the same signature rule, but check the notice for your exam and change the boxes if it differs.
Is my signature uploaded to TaskNinja?
No. The tool runs in your browser and keeps the file on your device.
