What this tool does

How to use it

  1. The maximum is already 10 KB on a 2.5 × 3.5 cm frame at 200 DPI. Change the frame if your form gives a different size.

  2. For a signature, switch Fit to “Fit with padding” and set a wide frame, such as 4.5 × 2 cm.

  3. Choose your JPG, PNG or WebP and press Resize.

  4. Check the size line under the preview, then download the file if it says it is under 10 KB.

Common uses

10 KB is about the smallest limit an Indian form will ask for. The best-known case is the PAN application on Protean (NSDL), where the signature must be a colour JPEG at 200 DPI, 2 by 4.5 cm, no more than 10 KB. Some state forms and older recruitment portals also use 10 KB for a signature or a small photo. A phone photo is several megabytes, so it has to lose more than 99% of its weight to fit.

The tool gets there in two moves. First it sets the pixel size from the frame you choose. At 200 DPI a 2.5 by 3.5 cm photo is 197 by 276 pixels, small enough that a JPEG can hold a face clearly at around 10 KB. Then it searches JPEG quality from high to low and keeps the highest quality that stays under the limit. Only if the lowest quality is still too big does it reduce the pixels further.

Signatures are easier than photos at this size, as long as the background is clean. Sign on white paper with a dark pen, take the picture in daylight, and crop tight around the ink. Grey shadows and paper texture add bytes. For the PAN form specifically, the PAN photo and signature page has both official presets ready, with the source linked.

If your form allows 20 KB, use the 20 KB page for a noticeably sharper result. If it also sets a minimum, type it in the Minimum KB box. Some forms reject a file that is too small just as they reject one that is too big.

A good original makes all the difference at this size. Take the photo against a plain light wall, with your face and shoulders filling most of the frame, and avoid strong shadows across one side of the face. Busy backgrounds, patterned clothes and noise from a dim room all eat into the 10 KB budget and leave less room for your face. If the first result looks smudged, retake the photo in daylight rather than running the same file through the tool again.

Check the file on the device you will upload from. Some portals show the size in bytes, and 10 KB there may mean 10,000 bytes rather than 10,240. If the portal rejects a 9.9 KB file, type 9 in the Maximum KB box and resize the original again.

Private, and the limits

Your picture stays on your device. The resize runs in this browser tab and nothing is sent to TaskNinja or to an AI service. No account, no watermark.

At 10 KB a photo will look softer than the original. That is normal. The result line tells you the exact size and pixels. If it says the file is still above 10 KB, do not upload it. HEIC photos work only if your browser can open them.

FAQ

Can a photo really be 10 KB and still look clear?
Yes, at a small passport size such as 197 × 276 pixels. A face stays recognisable, though fine detail is lost.
What uses a 10 KB limit?
The PAN signature on the Protean form is the most common. Some state and college forms use it for signatures too.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. It is resized in your browser and stays on your device.
Should I choose JPEG or PNG?
JPEG. A PNG photograph almost never gets down to 10 KB.
The result is 9.6 KB. Is that fine?
Yes, if the form only sets a maximum of 10 KB. The tool keeps the highest quality that stays under the limit.
