What this tool does

Convert a JMP .jmp data table to CSV or Excel online, free, without JMP. Dates stay real dates, every row is kept, and the file is never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Choose the .jmp file, or drop it on the box. It stays on your device.

  2. Check the rows and columns on screen, so you know what the export will hold.

  3. Press Download CSV for a plain UTF-8 file, or Download Excel for an .xlsx with real dates and a Columns sheet.

  4. Open the file in Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice, R, Python or your database tool.

Common uses

Inside JMP, File > Save As or Export writes CSV and Excel. Without JMP there is no easy way: Excel and Google Sheets cannot read the format, and most online converters want you to upload the file to their server first. That is a poor fit for supplier quality data, clinical or survey records, and anything under a confidentiality agreement. This converter does the whole job in your browser, so the data stays on your computer.

The CSV has one header row with the JMP column names, then every row of the table. Numbers keep their full precision, dates and date-times are written as 2024-03-13 or 2024-03-13 09:46:00, durations as hours, minutes and seconds, and missing values as empty cells. The file is UTF-8 with a byte order mark, so Excel shows accented and non-English text correctly when you double click it.

The Excel workbook puts the data on the first sheet, named after the file. Dates, times and durations are stored as real Excel values with date formats rather than text, so they sort correctly and work in formulas and pivot tables. A second sheet lists every column with its type, count, missing values, mean, SD, median, minimum, maximum and most common value, and an About sheet records the JMP version and save date. One Excel sheet holds up to about a million rows; for bigger tables the page offers CSV only.

If you only need part of the data, Copy table puts the whole table on the clipboard as tab-separated values, which paste cleanly into Excel, Google Sheets or a lab notebook. Copy summary gives a short text overview of the columns instead, handy when you just want to tell a colleague what a file contains before sending it on.

Private, and the limits

The conversion happens on your computer. The .jmp table is read in this tab and the CSV or .xlsx is built in memory and handed to your browser as a download. Nothing is sent to TaskNinja, there is no account, and file names and contents are not logged.

Values are converted, not formulas, graphs or table scripts. Formula columns export the values JMP saved. Tables in the older layout found in some JMP 11 and earlier files are refused with a message rather than converted wrongly.

FAQ

How do I convert a JMP file to CSV without JMP?
Choose the .jmp file on this page and press Download CSV. You get a UTF-8 CSV with every row, made in your browser.
How do I convert JMP to Excel?
Open the file here and press Download Excel. The .xlsx has the data sheet, a Columns sheet with statistics, and dates stored as real Excel dates.
Are dates converted correctly?
Yes. JMP counts seconds from 1 January 1904. The converter turns them into normal dates and times, and Excel gets real date values with date formats.
Can I convert a JMP file to Excel on a Mac or Chromebook?
Yes. The converter runs in any modern browser, on Mac, Chromebook, Linux, Windows or a phone.
Is non-English text kept?
Yes. The CSV is UTF-8 with a byte order mark, so Excel shows Chinese, Hindi, accented and other text correctly, and the Excel file stores it as it is.
