What this tool does

JMP File Viewer opens a JMP or JMP Pro data table in this browser and shows every row and column, with real dates and column statistics, ready to save as Excel or CSV.

How to use it

  1. Choose a .jmp file, or drop it on the box. It is read in your browser, not uploaded.

  2. The table opens straight away with its row and column count. Press Next columns for wide tables and Show all rows to see more rows.

  3. Check the Columns list for each column's type, missing values and a quick summary such as the mean or the most common value.

  4. Download Excel for a workbook with real dates and a Columns sheet, Download CSV for plain text, or Copy table to paste into Excel or Google Sheets.

Common uses

JMP is the statistics program from JMP Statistical Discovery (it began as part of SAS) that quality engineers, Six Sigma teams, R&D labs, universities and pharma companies use for design of experiments, process control and everyday analysis. Its native file is the .jmp data table. That works well inside a team that owns JMP and badly everywhere else. A supplier sends measurement data as .jmp, a course hands out its example tables in .jmp, a thesis supervisor shares the data behind a figure, or a former colleague left a folder of .jmp files behind. JMP is a paid annual subscription for Windows and Mac, and Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice cannot open a .jmp file at all. This page reads it in a few seconds on any computer or phone.

The viewer understands the parts of a JMP table that matter for the numbers. Numeric columns keep their full precision. Text columns, including JMP's compact and pooled storage for repeated labels, come out as plain text. Dates, times, date-times and durations are converted from JMP's own clock, which counts seconds from 1 January 1904, into normal calendar values such as 2024-03-13 09:46. Missing values are shown as a dot and left empty in exports. Columns that JMP compressed with gzip are unpacked in the browser, and row state columns show the marker each row was given in JMP.

Under the table, the Columns list gives every column with its type, how many values and missing values it has, and a short summary: mean, SD, minimum and maximum for numbers, the date range for dates, and the number of distinct values plus the most common one for text. That is often enough to check a file before you decide what to do with it. Copy summary puts the same overview on the clipboard for an email or a lab notebook.

Download Excel builds an .xlsx with the data on the first sheet, a Columns sheet with the statistics, and an About sheet that records the JMP version and the save date. Dates, times and durations are stored as real Excel date and time values with matching formats, so sorting, filters and pivot tables work straight away. Download CSV writes a UTF-8 file with every row that opens in Excel, R, Python or any database tool.

Private, and the limits

The .jmp file never leaves your device. It is read by code running in this browser tab, and the Excel and CSV files are made on your computer too. There is no upload, no account and no AI model, so supplier data, trial results and unpublished research stay private. Closing the tab clears everything from memory.

This is a viewer and converter, not a copy of JMP. Column formulas show the values JMP saved, but they are not recalculated. Table scripts, saved graphs, reports and value labels are not run or drawn. Scripts (.jsl), journals (.jrn) and projects (.jmpprj) are different file types and do not open here. Tables saved with the older layout found in some JMP 11 and earlier files are refused with a clear message instead of showing wrong numbers.

FAQ

Can I open a JMP file without JMP?
Yes. Choose the .jmp file on this page and the data table opens in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, on Windows, Mac, Linux, a Chromebook or a phone.
Is my JMP data uploaded anywhere?
No. The table is read inside your browser. TaskNinja never receives the file, and nothing is stored after you close the tab.
Can Excel open a .jmp file?
No. Excel has no reader for the JMP format. Open the file here and press Download Excel to get an .xlsx with the same rows, columns and real dates.
Which JMP versions are supported?
Data tables saved by JMP and JMP Pro 10 and later, including JMP 17, 18 and 19. Some tables from JMP 11 and earlier use an older layout; those show a message asking for a fresh save or a CSV.
Are formulas and graphs kept?
Formula columns show the values JMP saved with the table. Graphs and table scripts are not drawn or run, because only JMP runs them.
Is there a size limit?
Files up to 400 MB open. Very large tables depend on your device's memory; a phone handles fewer rows than a laptop. Tables too big for one Excel sheet can still be saved as CSV.
