What this tool does

CGPA to Percentage converts a grade point average on a 10 point scale into the percentage a form asks for, using the formula your own board or university publishes, and works the other way too, from a percentage back to CGPA. It also turns semester SGPAs into one CGPA.

How to use it

  1. Choose CGPA to %, % to CGPA or SGPA to CGPA at the top. CGPA to % is already selected.

  2. Type your CGPA, such as 8.6. You can paste 8.6/10 or 8,6 and the page reads it correctly.

  3. Pick your board or university rule. CBSE (× 9.5) is the default. Pick × 10 for AKTU, Anna University and VTU from 2021, or My own formula for anything else.

  4. Tap Convert to percentage. The percentage appears in large type with the working line by line, and a short table shows the same CGPA under the other common rules.

  5. Copy summary to paste into an application form or a message, or Download CSV to keep the figures in a sheet.

Common uses

There is no single national formula for turning CGPA into a percentage in India. Each board and university sets its own, and the difference is large. A CGPA of 8.0 is 76% under the CBSE rule, 80% under a plain × 10 rule, 72.5% under the old VTU rule and 75% under the GTU rule. Using the wrong one on a job or admission form can put you below a cut-off you actually meet, so the page asks for your rule first and shows the others only for comparison.

CBSE Class 10 grade sheets used CGPA from 2010 to 2017. The CBSE FAQ says an indicative percentage of marks can be worked out as 9.5 × CGPA, so 8.6 becomes 81.7% and a perfect 10 becomes 95%. The factor 9.5 came from the average marks of students who scored in the A1 band across years. CBSE has also said it does not itself calculate an overall percentage, so if an employer or college gives its own rule, that rule wins.

Many engineering universities moved to a plain CGPA × 10 rule. Anna University's 2021 regulations, AKTU's revised B.Tech ordinance and VTU's 2021 and 2022 scheme regulations all say the percentage of marks is CGPA multiplied by 10. VTU's older 2015, 2017 and 2018 schemes use (CGPA - 0.75) × 10 instead, and GTU's Notification 1 of 2012 uses (CGPA - 0.5) × 10. Check the year of your scheme on your grade card before you pick.

Savitribai Phule Pune University does not use one straight line. Its Circular 332 of 2020 gives a separate equation for each final grade under the UG CBCS 2019 pattern, for example 10 × CGPA - 7.5 for grade A and 20 × CGPA - 100 for grade O. Choose SPPU and the final grade printed on your grade card, and the page applies the right equation. If your university prints a formula on the back of the mark sheet, choose My own formula and type its multiplier and the number it adds or takes off.

Percentage to CGPA simply runs the same formula backwards. Under the CBSE rule 76% is 76 ÷ 9.5 = 8.0, and under the old VTU rule 70% is 70 ÷ 10 + 0.75 = 7.75. The page refuses a percentage that the chosen rule cannot produce on a 10 point scale, such as 97% under CBSE, instead of giving a CGPA above 10.

Private, and the limits

Your CGPA, percentage and semester grades stay in your browser tab. TaskNinja does not receive, save or log them, there is no sign-in, and the converter keeps working if your connection drops after the page loads. We only count anonymous events, such as the converter being used, never the numbers you type.

This converter is not an official certificate. When a university issues its own equivalence certificate or a recruiter names a formula, use that. The CSV keeps a record of exactly which rule produced your figure.

FAQ

What is 8.6 CGPA in percentage?
Under the CBSE rule it is 8.6 × 9.5 = 81.7%. Under a CGPA × 10 rule, used by AKTU, Anna University and VTU from 2021, it is 86%.
Why does CBSE multiply CGPA by 9.5?

My university is not in the list. What should I do?
Look on the back of your mark sheet or in the university's notice for the formula, then choose My own formula and type the multiplier and the number to add.
Does the converter round my percentage?
It shows two decimal places and rounds half up only at the end, so 81.7% shows as 81.70%. The working shows every step.
