Open an STD File Online

Open an .std file in this browser. If it is a STAAD.Pro model, you see the structure in 3D with its sections, supports and loads.

What this tool does

Got an .std file? It is usually a STAAD.Pro model. Open it online free, see it in 3D, and export members to Excel or a PDF report. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Choose the .std file, or drop it on the box. It stays on your device.

  2. If it is a STAAD.Pro model, the structure opens in 3D. Drag to turn it and click a member for its details.

  3. Check the Sections table, supports and load cases under the model.

  4. Download a PDF report, a PNG, or the members and joints as CSV for Excel.

Common uses

A file ending in .std nearly always comes from STAAD.Pro, Bentley's structural analysis program. Civil and structural engineers save their building, shed, tower and bridge models in this format, and then share them by email or WhatsApp with people who do not have the software. Windows often shows the file as an unknown type, and opening it in a text editor only shows lines like JOINT COORDINATES and MEMBER INCIDENCES followed by numbers. This page turns those lines back into the structure they describe.

Common reasons people need to open one: an architect wants to check that the columns in the structural model match the drawings, a site engineer wants member sizes on a phone, a client's reviewer wants to see what the consultant modelled, a student received a sample model from a teacher, or an estimator wants total lengths of each section for a quick quantity. All of that works here without installing STAAD.Pro, which is a paid Windows program.

A few other programs also use the .std extension for unrelated files. If the file is not a STAAD model the page says so plainly instead of drawing nonsense. If you were sent a STAAD output report (.anl), ask for the .std file too, because the report has results but no model. ETABS (.e2k, .edb) and SAP2000 (.s2k, .sdb) files are different formats and do not open here.

Once the model is open, the Model info panel shows the structure type, the length and force units, the number of joints, members, plates and supports, the overall size of the structure, the floor levels, and the design code lines in the file. The Sections table gives the count, total length and concrete volume for every section, and you can tap a row to light up only those members in the 3D view. Click any member to read its two joints, its length in the file's units, whether it is a column, a beam or an inclined member, and its section and material.

Private, and the limits

Nothing is uploaded. The .std file is read by this browser tab, the model is drawn on your screen, and the PDF, PNG and CSV files are made on your device. TaskNinja does not receive, store or log the file, and no AI is involved.

The page shows the model as it is written in the file. It does not run an analysis, so there are no forces, deflections or design results, and it does not change or save the .std file. Member releases, offsets and beta angles are not drawn.

FAQ

What is an .std file?
Usually a STAAD.Pro input file: a plain-text structural model with joints, members, sections, supports and loads, made by Bentley's STAAD.Pro.
How do I open an .std file without software?
Choose it on this page. The model opens in 3D in your browser on any computer or phone, with nothing to install.
Is the file uploaded?
No. It is read in your browser and never sent to a server.
Can I convert an .std file to Excel or PDF?
Yes. Download members CSV or joints CSV for Excel, or Download PDF report for a printable report with a picture of the model.
My file did not open. Why?
It may not be a STAAD model, or it may be a STAAD output report (.anl). The page shows what it found. Ask the sender for the STAAD.Pro .std input file.
