Most people who receive a DWG do not own AutoCAD. A contractor sends a floor plan, an architect shares a site layout, a vendor attaches a machine part, or a college lab hands out a drawing for an assignment. You only need to look at it, check a dimension, or forward a PDF to someone on WhatsApp. This viewer opens the file in a browser tab on a laptop or a phone. There is no install, no account, and no trial that expires after a week.
DWG is AutoCAD's own file format and it changes every few releases. This tool reads DWG from AutoCAD R13 up to the 2018 format, which is still the format AutoCAD 2019 to 2026 save by default. The DWG is turned into DXF, the open exchange format, by LibreDWG running inside your browser. Then the drawing is drawn on your screen with WebGL, the same graphics layer browser games use. DXF files skip the conversion step and open directly. The canvas is dark by default, like AutoCAD, and Light canvas switches it to white.
Lines, polylines, arcs, circles, splines, text, multiline text, hatches, blocks, and most dimensions are drawn. Each layer in the file appears in the list under the drawing, so you can hide the furniture layer on a floor plan, or show only the electrical layer on a services drawing. The first twelve layers are listed and Show all opens the rest. All on and All off are there for drawings with a hundred layers.
Measure works in the drawing's own units. Press Measure, click the first point, then the second point. The box at the top of the drawing shows the straight distance and the horizontal and vertical parts. If the file says it is in millimetres you see mm, and if the file does not say, you see plain units. Clicks are not snapped to corners, so zoom in close before you click when the number matters.
Download PNG saves an image of the current view, on the dark or light canvas you are using, at up to three times your screen resolution. Download PDF puts the same view on a white A4 page, ready to print, landscape or portrait to match the drawing, with the file name at the bottom. Hide the layers you do not want before you save. For a full sheet with title block and scale, print from your CAD app, because this viewer shows model space and does not plot layouts to scale.
