What this tool does

Convert a Microsoft Publisher .pub file to PDF in your browser. Every page, selectable text, real page size. Free, no Publisher needed, and nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Choose the .pub file or drop it on the box. Nothing is uploaded.

  2. Check the pages that appear. Use the thumbnails to look at each one.

  3. Press Download PDF. The PDF is made on your device and saved to your downloads.

Common uses

Converting to PDF is the safest way to keep a Publisher file usable. Microsoft's own advice, when it announced the end of Publisher, was to save publications as PDF if they only need to be viewed, shared or printed. The trouble is that Microsoft's route needs Publisher itself, and after October 2026 most people no longer have it. This converter does the same job without Publisher, on any computer or phone with a modern browser.

Each page of the publication becomes one PDF page with the same width and height, so an A4 newsletter stays A4, a Letter flyer stays Letter, and a DL leaflet or a business card keeps its odd size. Text is real text in embedded open fonts, which means you can search the PDF, select a paragraph and copy it. Photos are placed at their full stored quality, and shapes, lines and filled boxes are drawn as vector graphics, so the PDF stays sharp when you zoom or print. Most publications give a PDF of a few hundred kilobytes.

Typical jobs are clearing out an old folder of parish bulletins, school newsletters or society notices, sending a flyer to a printer who asks for PDF, attaching last year's brochure to an email, or uploading a document to a portal that does not accept .pub. If a portal has a size limit, pass the PDF through Compress PDF afterwards. If you would rather have images, the same page saves each page as a PNG picture, and Copy text gives you the words alone.

Private, and the limits

Conversion happens entirely in your browser. The .pub file is read by libmspub running as WebAssembly in a worker, and the PDF is written by pdf-lib in the same tab. No copy of the file or the PDF is sent anywhere, and nothing is kept after you close the page, which matters for membership lists and contact details printed in newsletters.

The PDF is a faithful reading of the file, not a print from Publisher. Fonts are swapped for open fonts with the same metrics, so headings in fancy typefaces look simpler. Gradients are filled with an even average colour in the PDF, while the on-screen page shows the gradient. WMF and EMF clip art is left as a grey box. Very old Publisher 1.0 to 95 files and a few unusual template layouts cannot be converted and give a clear error.
