What this tool does

OLM File Viewer opens Outlook for Mac archives (.olm) in this browser, so you can read, search and convert the emails without Outlook or a Mac.

How to use it

  1. Choose the .olm file or drop it on the box. The OLM reader is small (about 13 KB) and is already loaded by the time you pick the file.

  2. The folder list and the newest emails appear within a second or two, even for a big archive, while the rest is read in the background.

  3. Pick a folder or type in Search to find an email by subject, sender or words in the message. Click an email to read it.

  4. Save attachments, download the email as .eml or print it to PDF, or use the buttons at the top to save everything as MBOX, the email list as CSV, contacts as VCF and the calendar as ICS.

Common uses

Outlook for Mac saves backups and exports as an .olm file. It is the file you get from Tools, Export in Outlook on a Mac, and it is how many people move their mail when they change laptops, leave a job or hand over a mailbox. The trouble starts when the file lands somewhere Outlook for Mac is not. Outlook for Windows cannot import an .olm file, a new MacBook may not have Outlook at all, and IT teams, lawyers and accountants are often sent an .olm and asked to find one email in it. This page opens the archive in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, a Chromebook or a phone.

An .olm file is a ZIP container that holds one XML file per email, separate files for attachments, and lists of contacts, calendar events, tasks and notes. The viewer reads the ZIP directory first and then only the parts it needs, straight from the file on your disk, so a 10 GB archive opens without being copied into memory. Emails are listed newest first with their folder path, sender, date and a paperclip when they have attachments. Opening an email shows the From, To, Cc and date lines, the attachments with their real sizes, and the message itself with its original formatting, in a sealed frame where scripts cannot run and pictures from the internet stay hidden until you ask for them.

Converting is the other half. Download all as MBOX (ZIP) writes one standard MBOX file per folder, with every attachment inside the messages, which Thunderbird, Apple Mail and most mail apps can import, and from Thunderbird you can move mail into Gmail or Outlook. Download folder as MBOX does the same for one folder. Download .eml saves a single email that opens in Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird on any computer, and Print or save as PDF keeps a readable copy for records. Email list (CSV) opens in Excel with sender, recipients, date, subject, folder and attachment count, which helps when you need to show what is in a mailbox. Contacts save as a VCF file and calendar events and tasks as an ICS file.

Private, and the limits

A mailbox is about as private as files get. It holds contracts, bank statements, medical letters, passwords and years of conversations. This page does not upload your archive. The file is read by a small worker inside this tab, emails are shown on your screen, and every MBOX, EML, CSV, VCF and ICS file is made on your device. TaskNinja never receives the file, its name or any email in it, and nothing is sent to an AI model. Remote pictures in emails are blocked by default, so opening an old newsletter does not tell its sender that you read it.

There are limits. The viewer reads archives exported by Outlook 2011, 2016, 2019, 2021 and Microsoft 365 for Mac. Password protected or damaged archives cannot be opened, and a partly copied file is reported as damaged. Times are shown in your own time zone. Emails that were stored only as a header in the archive show the header and no body. Windows Outlook .pst files are a different format and do not open here. The full ZIP export stops at about 4 GB, so for bigger archives download one folder at a time as MBOX.
