What this tool does

Rent Receipt Generator turns a tenant name, a landlord name, the monthly rent and the house address into a full set of signed-ready rent receipts for the months you pick, as one PDF you can print.

How to use it

  1. Type the tenant name (the person who pays), the landlord name (the person who receives) and the rent for one month in rupees.

  2. Pick how the rent is paid and type the address of the rented house or flat.

  3. Pick the first and last month. The page starts at April of this financial year and ends this month. Choose Monthly, Quarterly or One for the year.

  4. Type the landlord PAN if the rent is above ₹1,00,000 a year. Open More options for the landlord address, the day the rent is paid, receipts per A4 page and the revenue stamp box.

  5. Tap Make rent receipts. Check the first receipt in the preview, then tap Download PDF, print it and get every receipt signed by the landlord.

Common uses

Salaried people who live in a rented home can claim house rent allowance (HRA) as exempt under the old tax regime, and the employer asks for rent receipts as proof, usually between January and March. Each receipt should name the tenant and the landlord, give the rent and the period it covers, the address of the house, the date and the landlord's signature. This page prints all of that for every month in one go, so you do not have to fill twelve paper slips by hand.

Each receipt carries a number, a date, the amount in figures and in Indian words (for example Rupees One Lakh Twenty Five Thousand Only), the payment mode and the period, such as April 2026. Quarterly receipts follow the financial year quarters: April to June, July to September, October to December and January to March. One for the year gives one receipt per financial year, so a range from January to December becomes two receipts that split at March. The date on each receipt is the day you pay rent in the last month it covers. A day like the 31st moves to the last day of shorter months.

The landlord's PAN matters once the rent passes ₹1,00,000 a year, which is ₹8,334 a month or more. CBDT Circular 08/2013 made the landlord's PAN compulsory above that limit, and the Income Tax Department's FAQ on Form 124 says the same. If the landlord has no PAN, the PDF adds a one-page declaration with their name, address and the rent received, which the landlord signs. The PAN box checks the shape of the PAN: five letters, four digits and a letter, with the fourth letter showing the holder type, P for a person. It cannot tell whether the PAN is real.

From tax year 2026-27 the employee claim form is Form 124 under Rule 205 of the Income-tax Rules, 2026. It replaced Form 12BB and Rule 26C. The HRA part asks for the landlord's name, address and PAN, the rent paid, and your relationship with the landlord, if any. Rent receipts are the proof you attach, so the same receipts work whatever form your employer uses.

Cash receipts above ₹5,000 need a ₹1 revenue stamp under Article 53 of Schedule I to the Indian Stamp Act, 1899, and the landlord signs across the stamp. The stamp box turns on when you pick Cash and a receipt is above ₹5,000. You can switch it on or off in More options, for example if your employer asks for stamps on all receipts. Rent paid by UPI, bank transfer or cheque already leaves a bank record, which many employers accept with the receipts. If rent is above ₹50,000 a month, the tenant has to deduct TDS on rent, and the page reminds you of that.

Private, and the limits

Names, addresses, PAN and rent stay in this browser tab. The receipts and the PDF are made on your device by pdf-lib. Nothing you type is sent to TaskNinja, saved or written into analytics. We count only anonymous events, such as receipts being made or a PDF being downloaded.

This is a document maker, not tax advice. The page does not work out your HRA exemption, which is the least of the HRA you get, rent paid minus 10% of salary, and 50% or 40% of salary depending on the city. HRA is not exempt under the new regime, and receipts are proof only when the rent was really paid.

FAQ

Is a rent receipt valid without a revenue stamp?
A revenue stamp is needed on cash receipts above ₹5,000. For rent paid by UPI, bank transfer or cheque, most employers accept a receipt without a stamp, but some still ask for one. The stamp box can be switched on in More options.
When is the landlord's PAN required?
When the rent you pay is above ₹1,00,000 a year. If the landlord has no PAN, the PDF adds a signed declaration from them, which you give to your employer instead.
Can I make one receipt for the whole year?
Yes. Choose One for the year to get one receipt per financial year, or Quarterly for one receipt every three months. Ask your employer which they accept. Most accept monthly or quarterly receipts.
Can I pay rent to my parents and claim HRA?
Yes, if the parent owns the house, you really pay the rent, and the parent shows it as income in their return. Keep a bank record of each payment.
What if my rent changed in the middle of the year?
Make two sets: one for the months at the old rent and one for the months at the new rent. Each set numbers its receipts from 1.
Are the names and PAN I type uploaded?
No. Everything is made in your browser and the PDF is saved straight to your device.
