What this tool does

GST Calculator adds tax to a price before GST, or takes GST out of a price that already includes it, and splits the tax into CGST and SGST or one IGST figure.

How to use it

  1. Choose Add GST when you have a price before tax, or Remove GST when the amount already includes tax.

  2. Type the amount in rupees. Pick a rate chip, or type a custom rate from 0 to 100.

  3. Choose Intra-state for CGST and SGST, or Inter-state for IGST. Intra-state is selected to start.

  4. Tap Calculate GST. Read the taxable value, the GST and the grand total, and the CGST, SGST or IGST split.

  5. Optional: add more lines, each with its own amount and rate, then copy the summary or download a CSV.

Common uses

A shop bill, a freelancer invoice and a quote need two sums. Add GST starts from the taxable value and builds the tax and the total the customer pays. Remove GST starts from a total that already includes tax and works back to the taxable value. This page does that sum for one line, or for up to ten lines with different rates.

The chips follow Notification No. 9/2025-Central Tax (Rate) and Notification No. 9/2025-Integrated Tax (Rate), dated 17 September 2025 and effective 22 September 2025. The central-tax notification replaced Notification No. 1/2017-Central Tax (Rate). Its CGST halves are 2.5, 9, 20, 1.5, 0.125, 0.75 and 14 percent, so the full rates are 5, 18, 40, 3, 0.25, 1.5 and 28 percent. The integrated-tax notification sets those rates as IGST. The 56th GST Council meeting is the source. The FAQ, the PIB note and both notifications are under Official sources.

5%, 18% and 40% are the main chips. 0.25%, 1.5%, 3% and 28% stay because those slabs are still notified. 0% is for a nil or exempt supply you already know is at nil. Notification 9/2025 has no zero schedule. The custom box takes 0 to 100 with up to three decimal places. Services use their own notifications.

28% is Schedule VII and 40% is Schedule III. Some goods, including certain tobacco items, can stay on an earlier GST rate plus compensation cess until a later notification. This calculator does not add cess, and it has no product or HSN map. Read the rate on the invoice or in the schedule, then tap or type it. Do not guess from the name of the goods.

Intra-state means CGST plus SGST, each half the rate. Inter-state means one IGST figure at the full rate. Extra lines share that mode and supply type, with their own rate and an optional description. The taxable value, GST and grand total are the sum of the lines. Copy summary is plain text. Download CSV is one row per line plus a total row.

Private, and the limits

The amount, the rate and any line description stay in this browser tab. They are not sent to TaskNinja, saved, or written into analytics. Counted events are anonymous, such as the calculator being opened or a file being downloaded. Rupee figures are not part of those events.

The result is arithmetic, not a ruling. The page does not check exemptions, place an HSN in a schedule, or apply composition, reverse charge or cess. Section 170 of the CGST Act lets invoice tax be rounded to the nearest rupee. Here each figure is rounded to the nearest paise. CGST and SGST are rounded separately, so they can differ by one paise from IGST. On Remove GST, GST is the remainder after the taxable value is rounded, so the two add back to the amount you typed. An odd leftover paise is placed on CGST.

FAQ

What is the difference between Add GST and Remove GST?
Add GST starts from a price before tax and shows the tax and the total including GST. Remove GST starts from a total that already includes tax and shows the taxable value and the GST inside it.
What are CGST, SGST and IGST?
Intra-state supplies are charged CGST and SGST, each half of the GST rate. Inter-state supplies are charged IGST at the full rate. Pick Intra-state or Inter-state and the page shows the matching split.
Which rate should I use after 22 September 2025?
The chips match the goods slabs in the 17 September 2025 rate notifications, effective 22 September 2025. You still have to confirm which slab your HSN is in. The page does not look that up.
Does 28% or 40% include compensation cess?
No. 28% is Schedule VII and 40% is Schedule III. Cess, where it still applies, is extra. Some goods, including certain tobacco items, can stay on an earlier rate plus cess until notified.
Why can CGST plus SGST differ from IGST by one paise?
Each half is rounded to the nearest paise on its own. Two rounded halves can land one paise away from the full rate rounded once. The grand total uses the split for the supply type you picked.
Is the amount I type uploaded?
No. The calculation runs in your browser. The amount, the rate and the result stay on your device.
