What this tool does

Convert Mathcad Prime .mcdx and Mathcad 15 .xmcd worksheets to PDF without Mathcad. Typeset maths, results, text and plots on A4. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Choose a .mcdx, .xmcd or .xmcdz file, or drop it on the box. It is read in your browser and never uploaded.

  2. Check the worksheet on screen. Maths, results with units, text, pictures and plots appear in page order.

  3. Press Download PDF. The PDF is made on your device in a second or two, with one A4 page after another and the file name and page number in the footer.

  4. Attach the PDF to a report or calculation pack, or print it. Use Results (CSV) if you also want the numbers in Excel.

Common uses

A PDF is how most Mathcad calculations end up being read. A checking engineer wants the design calculation as a PDF, a client wants it bound into a report, a lecturer wants the assignment as a PDF upload and a contractor wants something they can open on site. If you were sent the .mcdx and do not have Mathcad, or you have Prime but the file is an old Mathcad 15 .xmcd, getting that PDF is surprisingly hard. The free Express edition only runs on Windows, and most online converters upload your file to a server first.

This page builds the PDF on your device. McdxOpen reads the worksheet's saved expression tree and typesets every maths region into the PDF as real text, so names, subscripts, fractions, roots, matrices and units stay sharp at any zoom and can be searched or copied. Results come straight from the values Mathcad saved, with their units and decimal places. Text regions are wrapped to the page width, long text flows onto the next page, pictures and plots are placed as images, and the author's page breaks start a new page. For a Mathcad 15 .xmcd file the maths comes from the pictures Mathcad saved inside the file.

The layout follows the worksheet. Regions that sit side by side in Mathcad stay side by side when they fit, and the page is scaled so the widest part of the worksheet fits the A4 width. A typical structural calculation of a dozen pages comes out in under a second, and a big worksheet with hundreds of regions takes a couple of seconds, with a progress message while it works. The PDF is not stored anywhere, so close the tab and it is gone.

The PDF is a faithful reading copy, not a Mathcad print. Fonts are a clean sans serif, colours become black and white, and things Mathcad draws live, such as 3D plots and components, are listed by name. Results are the ones in the file: if the worksheet was saved without calculating, open it in Mathcad, calculate and save again before converting.

Private, and the limits

Your worksheet never leaves your device. Reading, typesetting and building the PDF all happen in this tab, with no upload, no account and no AI model, so client designs and coursework stay private. Old binary .mcd files from Mathcad 11 and earlier do not open. PTC and Mathcad are trademarks of PTC Inc. TaskNinja is not connected to PTC.

FAQ

How do I convert MCDX to PDF without Mathcad?
Choose the .mcdx file on this page and press Download PDF. The PDF is built in your browser, with nothing to install and no licence.
Is the maths in the PDF searchable?
Yes for .mcdx files. The maths is typeset as real text, so you can search and copy names and numbers. Maths from .xmcd files comes from the pictures Mathcad saved.
Can I convert XMCD to PDF?
Yes. Mathcad 12 to 15 .xmcd and .xmcdz files convert the same way, with their text, results and the maths pictures Mathcad saved.
Is my file uploaded to make the PDF?
No. The PDF is made by code in this tab, so the worksheet never reaches TaskNinja or any server.
Why does the PDF show empty results?
The converter uses the results saved in the file. Calculate the worksheet in Mathcad and save it again, then convert.
