What this tool does

How to use it

  1. Under 200 KB is already selected. Change it only if the portal printed a different limit.

  2. Add the original PDF, not a file you already crushed to an unreadable smear.

  3. Press Compress PDF. The page rebuilds images, then runs a structural pass in this tab.

  4. Download only if the result is under the cap and you can still read the pages.

Common uses

200 KB shows up on portals that want a small file but still expect a readable scan: a longer certificate, a multi-page affidavit, or a college form that rejected 100 KB as too soft. This page starts on that cap. You get more room for the images than on the 100 KB page, so text in a photograph often stays easier to read. It is not a promise. A 30-page colour scan can still miss 200 KB.

Use the original export from your scanner app or from the website that gave you the PDF. If you photographed each page, make one PDF first with JPG to PDF, download it, and compress that download here. Compressing the photos one by one is a different job. Photo size limits belong on the image tool, not on this page.

GST invoices saved as colour scans, bank letters, and property papers are typical 200 KB cases. The portal’s error usually names the limit. If the error says 1 MB or 500 KB, go to the main Compress PDF page and pick that larger cap. Sending a 200 KB file to a box that allows 1 MB is fine. Sending a 400 KB file to a 200 KB box is not.

The quality buttons are not the control that matters here. The cap walks image DPI and quality down on its own: it starts nearer a normal document and keeps going until the file fits or the ladder ends. A structural pass then strips unused bits inside the PDF, still inside the tab. The page keeps the smaller result and prints both sizes. “Under the 200 KB cap” means the download is actually at or below that number.

People also use 200 KB when they have to email a scan to an office that blocks large attachments. Mail limits vary. 200 KB is small enough for almost any mailbox. If the scan is a single page, you may already be under the cap before you start, and the tool will say the file did not need to shrink.

Private, and the limits

Your PDF stays in the browser tab. It is not uploaded, not added to an account, and not sent to the AI provider that the writing tools use. This page does not spend a free run. Download the result if you need it after you leave.

If the smallest file is still above 200 KB, believe that line. Do not upload it hoping the portal will round down. Encrypted PDFs need the password removed elsewhere first. Phone browsers can run out of memory on very large scans. Split a huge PDF with Merge & Split PDF, compress the part the form asked for, and leave the rest out.

FAQ

Is Under 200 KB selected when I open this page?
Yes. The cap is set to 200 KB. The quality preset is not used while a cap is on.
How is 200 KB different from 100 KB?
200 KB leaves more room for images, so a scan often stays clearer. Use 100 KB only when the form names 100 KB. Both pages run the same tool.
The file is 180 KB. Is that under the cap?
Yes. Under 200 KB means 200 KB or smaller. The result line says when you are under the cap.
Can I compress a password PDF?
No. Unlock it in the program that created it, then compress the unlocked file. This page never asks for the password.
Does TaskNinja keep the PDF?
No. The file is handled in your browser and is not stored on a TaskNinja server.
Will compressing to 200 KB fix a blurry scan?
No. Compression only makes a file smaller. It cannot sharpen a photo that was already out of focus. Start from a clearer original if you have one.
Can I do several PDFs at once?
This page takes one PDF at a time. Merge them first if the portal wants a single attachment, then compress the merged file.
