Simulink SLX to PDF

Turn a Simulink model into a PDF in this browser: the top level, every subsystem and every Stateflow chart on its own landscape page, each with its path printed above it.

What this tool does

Convert a Simulink .slx or .mdl model to PDF in your browser, without MATLAB. Every subsystem and Stateflow chart on its own page, plus PNG and SVG. No upload.

How to use it

  1. Choose the .slx or .mdl file, or drop it on the box. It stays on your device.

  2. Check the top level in the preview. Use Go to if you want to look at a particular subsystem first.

  3. Press Download PDF. Every view is added in order, from the top level down through each subsystem and chart.

  4. For one diagram only, press This view as PNG or SVG, which paste cleanly into Word, PowerPoint or LaTeX.

Common uses

A PDF of a Simulink model is what people ask for when the reader does not have MATLAB: a lab report or thesis appendix, a design review with a manager or customer, a supplier sharing a reference design, a handover document, or simply printing the model to mark it up by hand. Inside Simulink this takes the print dialog for every subsystem one at a time, or a Report Generator licence, and it cannot be done at all on a machine without Simulink.

This page builds the whole document in one go. Each view gets its own A4 landscape page with the full path printed at the top, such as cruise_control / Vehicle / Engine, so a reader can follow the hierarchy on paper. The diagram is scaled to fill the page without cropping, at a resolution that stays sharp when zoomed or printed. Pages follow the model's own order: the top level first, then each subsystem followed by the subsystems and charts inside it.

Stateflow charts are drawn as state diagrams with their conditions on the arrows, and MATLAB Function blocks print their code, so the PDF shows the logic as well as the wiring. If you only need one diagram, the PNG is drawn at twice the screen size for slides, and the SVG is vector art that stays crisp at any size in a report. The Block list (CSV) button adds a spreadsheet of every block, its type, its library and its settings, which is handy for checking parameters or writing a bill of blocks.

Large models are fine. A model with hundreds of subsystems turns into a PDF of hundreds of pages, and the page counts them as it goes so you can see progress. The browser stays responsive while it works because the model is read in a background worker.

Private, and the limits

The PDF is made on your computer. The model is read in this tab and the finished file is handed to your browser as a download, with nothing sent to TaskNinja, no account and no record of file names or contents.

The PDF shows the model as saved, not simulation results. Custom mask pictures, blocks from libraries outside the file and protected models are shown as labelled boxes, and fonts are simpler than in Simulink, so small text may sit slightly differently from the original.

FAQ

How do I convert an SLX file to PDF without MATLAB?
Choose the .slx file here and press Download PDF. The PDF is made in your browser in a few seconds, with one page for each subsystem and chart.
Does the PDF include subsystems and Stateflow charts?
Yes. Every subsystem, Stateflow chart and MATLAB Function in the file gets its own page, with its path in the model printed at the top.
Can I get just one diagram as an image?
Yes. Open the view you want and press This view as PNG for slides or SVG for a sharp vector drawing in a report.
Is the model uploaded to make the PDF?
No. The PDF is made by this browser tab, so the model and the PDF stay on your device.
Will this convert an .mdl file too?
Yes. Old text .mdl files and newer ones become a PDF the same way as an .slx file.
